The Roar of the Crowd
The Iron Colosseum rises from the sandstone mesa above Kharabad -- a monument to glory, power, and the Warlord who built both. Every year, fighters enter the Grand Tournament for gold, freedom, and Zahra al-Nasir's favor. Every year, the crowd gets its spectacle.
Your players have been conscripted into the tournament. Five rounds of escalating arena combat -- beasts, traps, rival gladiators, and a fifteen-foot sandstone golem -- with ten thousand screaming spectators deciding who lives and who dies. Between bouts, they navigate the gladiator pits beneath the arena: a seething underworld of bookmakers, spies, broken veterans, and a rival team called the Red Fang who fight dirty and sleep well.
Then the Final Round Changes Everything
The gate opens. The crowd roars. And instead of a beast or a champion, out stumbles a chained teenager. The Warlord's own child -- arrested for calling for democracy, sentenced to die in "honorable combat" so the crowd never realizes they're watching an execution.
The Warlord stands. Raises her hand. "Finish it."
Ten thousand people hold their breath. What do your players do?
Five Endings, One Question
Will your players fight for glory, or fight for justice -- knowing the cost?
- Defy the Warlord and fight her guards in the arena while the crowd watches
- Turn the crowd against the tyrant -- a revolution born in the sand
- Escape through the tunnels beneath the arena, smuggling the prisoner to freedom
- Negotiate exile -- convince the Warlord that a dead martyr is more dangerous than a living exile
- Obey. Kill the prisoner. Take the gold. Live with it.
