About This Adventure

Tagline: The well went dark. Something lives down there now. Something that used to be human.

The Hook

The village of Millbrook is dying. A week ago, their only well went dark. The water turned bitter, poisonous. Livestock sicken within hours. Children report seeing eyes in the depths. The village elder offers everything he has to anyone who will descend and eliminate whatever has taken up residence.

The truth is heartbreaking. Ten years ago, the elder's daughter Elara made a pact with an ancient water spirit to end a drought. She became the well's guardian -- purifying the water from below, unable to leave, slowly losing everything that made her human. She's been alone in the darkness for a decade. And all that time, something worse has been feeding on her strength. The Drowned One -- an ancient horror of broken pacts and drowned souls -- is finally strong enough to rise.

Elara isn't the monster. She's the only thing holding it back.

What Players Will Experience

What Waits Below is a 3-4 hour adventure of vertical exploration and impossible choices. Players will descend through an ancient well-shaft, fight corrupted water creatures, discover a guardian's ten-year vigil told through journal entries and desperate wall carvings, and face a climax where the altar at the heart of the well determines everyone's fate.

This isn't a dungeon crawl -- it's a descent into tragedy. Four distinct endings mean your players' choices -- and their capacity for compassion -- shape everything. The emotional gut-punch of a father learning what happened to his daughter will stay with your table long after the session ends.

Content Advisory

This adventure explores themes of sacrifice, transformation, grief, and family. It includes body horror elements and drowning imagery. The tone is melancholy horror with emotional depth. The hardest moment isn't the boss fight -- it's a father learning what his daughter became to save him.
